History

The Raja Rai Rayan Devdi Gadiyal, popularly known as the Shah-Ali-Banda clock tower is the over 100-year-old. The Raja Rai Rayan Devdi Gadiyal has clocks on all 4 sides and a bell. The uniqueness of the clock is it displays time in numerals of four languages including English, Hindi, Roman and Telugu.
The clock tower which is now enveloped on its two sides with residential buildings, was once part of the magnificent Raja Rai Rayan Devdi (palace). The palace was constructed in 1904 by Raja Roy Rayan Bahadur who was the daftardar (revenue officer) in the erstwhile court of Nizam of Hyderabad. The big clock was also fixed the same year. The chime from this clock used to wake up people from their slumber for a century. Consulting

Although the palace was damaged through the years due to human intervention and some natural causes, the clock tower was spared a similar fate. However, due to lack of upkeep and negligence, the structure developed cracks, the clocks on each of its side had stopped working and there was massive in-growth of vegetation on it.

Restoration of clock mechanism and chime bell required, hands and screens of the clock to be restored, screen frame of the clock to be water sealed.
De-vegetation required .
Crack in the Arch to be treated with grout and lime plaster.
The Arch, damaged walls, Chajja inside out to be scrapped and re- plastered with lime mortar and be lime painted.
Waterproofing and water drain to be secured.
Gates of the tower to be restored, hinges to be refastened, surface to be treated and final polish or paint to be done.
Electrical and Facility wires to be moved away from site.
Encroachments either sides cuts the view of the clock tower.
Access to the clock tower blocked, to be re-secured.
